BLUE LOCK CHAPTER 9: SUPERHERO
SUMMARY:
Blue Lock – The Moment Isagi Begins to Find His Weapon
How Doubt, Inspiration, and a Simple Conversation Change Everything
This chapter begins with a simple question.
But that question exposes something dangerous.
Something every striker must face.
“What is your weapon?”
For most players, the answer comes easily.
For Isagi, it becomes a crisis.
The Question Every Striker Must Answer
Inside Team Z’s room, Kuon asks every player to declare their strongest ability — their “weapon.”
One by one, the answers come confidently.
Some shout their strengths with pride.
“MY WEAPON IS MY INCREDIBLE SHOOTING TECHNIQUE!”
“AND MY MOTTO IS ‘SEXY SOCCER!’”
Others describe their specific skills.
“MY WEAPON IS… DRIBBLING.”
“…TACKLING, I GUESS.”
“MY LEFT LEG SHOOTING POWER.”
“MINE IS MY RELENTLESS SPIRIT!”
“MINE IS GETTING BEHIND THE ENEMY!”
“SPEED AND TECHNIQUE!”
“PROBABLY THAT I’M AN ALL-ROUNDER.”
“MINE IS JUMPING POWER.”
Everyone seems to know exactly what makes them dangerous on the field.
Then Kuon turns to the last person.
“NEXT, ISAGI-KUN…?”
And suddenly, the room becomes quiet.
The Moment Isagi Realizes He Has No Answer
Isagi tries to think.
But nothing comes out.
“UMM…”
“I WONDER…?”
“MY WEAPON…”
“UHH…”
He attempts to say something.
“PASSING, RIGHT?”
But he immediately rejects it.
“NO, IT HAS TO BE AS A STRIKER…”
Because a striker’s weapon should not be passing.
Then the harsh rule appears.
“IF YOU CAN’T SAY YOUR OWN WEAPON, THEN YOU’RE OUT.”
Everyone else has something.
A shot.
Speed.
Technique.
Instinct.
But Isagi cannot confidently claim anything.
And the discussion moves on.
Leaving him behind.
Kuon’s Idea – Turning Individual Strengths into Strategy
Kuon explains why the team is doing this exercise.
He says understanding each player’s weapon is the key to winning.
“BY THINKING OF WHAT OUR MOST POWERFUL WEAPONS ARE…”
“…IS HOW WELL WE CAN UTILIZE OUR WEAPONS!”
The idea is simple.
If everyone understands their strength, the team can build a strategy around it.
Kuon continues:
“WE CAN CREATE A TEAM WITH THAT AS THE FOUNDATION.”
And he reminds them:
“EGO TOLD US THAT’S THE WAY WE CAN WIN.”
But not everyone is convinced.
Some worry about repeating their last failure.
“BUT IF WE ALL JUST DO WHATEVER WE WANT, WON’T IT END UP THE SAME AS LAST GAME?”
Another player points out the real issue.
“EVEN IF WE KNOW OUR WEAPONS, IT’S POINTLESS IF WE’RE STILL NOT WORKING AS ONE…”
Kuon thinks for a moment.
Then he says something unexpected.
The Plan – “Operation: Me, Next 9”
After thinking carefully, Kuon presents a strategy.
“WITH THIS PLAN, I THINK…”
“…WE COULD WIN.”
He gives it a dramatic name.
“OPERATION: ME, NEXT 9!”
The reactions are mixed.
Some accept it quickly.
“WE DON’T HAVE ANY OTHER CHOICE!”
“I THINK IT’S GOOD.”
Others criticize it immediately.
“THAT’S A LAME NAME…”
But in the end, everyone understands the situation.
They have no better option.
So the decision is made.
“OKAY. THAT SETTLES IT.”
And the team prepares for the next match.
Training Begins – A Team Slowly Forming
Team Z begins practicing with intensity.
“…THREW OURSELVES INTO TRAINING.”
The training is messy.
Players argue and shout instructions.
“PASS IT TO ME WITH THIS TIMING!”
“YOU’RE ASKING TOO MUCH!”
“NO! PUT IT CLOSER TO MY FEET!”
They are not synchronized yet.
The narrator admits it clearly.
“THOUGH IT’S NOT LIKE WE BECAME A TRUE TEAM RIGHT AWAY…”
But something is happening.
Slowly.
Gradually.
The idea behind Kuon’s plan begins connecting them.
“BUT EVEN THOUGH WE STARTED OUT DISCONNECTED, I COULD FEEL THAT IDEA…”
One thought pushes them forward.
A brutal reminder.
“IF WE LOSE, OUR SOCCER LIVES ARE OVER.”
That fear begins uniting them.
Until finally—
“…BRINGING US ALL TOGETHER.”
“…WAS GRADUALLY…”
The Quiet Moment – Isagi Alone with His Doubt
Later that night, Isagi sits alone in the dining hall.
The room is empty.
The atmosphere is heavy.
He sighs.
“AAH, I’M BEAT…”
Then he notices his food.
“NATTO AGAIN…”
It has already been a week inside Blue Lock.
“IT’S ALREADY BEEN A WEEK SINCE WE CAME HERE, I THINK…”
But instead of improving confidence, something else is happening.
“TO BE HONEST…”
“I JUST KEEP LOSING CONFIDENCE.”
He remembers earlier that day.
When he couldn’t answer Kuon’s question.
“IT’S SO PATHETIC HOW I COULDN’T THINK OF SOMETHING RIGHT AWAY…”
And the harsh words from before echo again.
“YOU DON’T HAVE WHAT IT TAKES.”
Isagi begins comparing himself to everyone else.
And the conclusion he reaches is painful.
“I DON’T HAVE…”
“A WEAPON I CAN BOLDLY DECLARE…”
Then he asks himself the most important question.
“WHAT’S MY WEAPON…?”
“WHAT CAN I DO…?”
And finally—
“…DON’T HAVE ANYTHING AT ALL…”
Kunigami Arrives – A Different Kind of Strength
Just when Isagi is drowning in doubt, someone approaches.
“MIND IF I SIT HERE?”
It is Kunigami.
He greets him simply.
“GOOD WORK TODAY, ISAGI.”
Isagi thanks him.
“THANK YOU.”
Kunigami reveals something surprising.
“I CAME HERE TO SEE YOU.”
Isagi is confused.
But then he asks Kunigami something personal.
Kunigami’s Reason for Playing Soccer
Isagi asks:
“WHY DO YOU PLAY SOCCER?”
Kunigami answers immediately.
Without hesitation.
“I PLAY SOCCER…”
“…SO I CAN BECOME A SUPERHERO.”
He explains that when he was a child, the heroes he admired were not fictional characters.
“THE ONES I LOOKED UP TO WEREN’T POWER RANGERS, OR ROBOTS, OR THE PIRATE KING…”
They were real people.
Strikers.
“IT WAS THE STRIKERS…”
“…WHO WOULD RUN AROUND THE FIELD…”
“…AND STEAL GOALS TO WIN.”
Those players inspired him.
“THEY WERE REAL SUPERHEROES.”
They gave him something powerful.
“COURAGE AND EXCITEMENT…”
And because of that dream, he declares:
“FOR THE SAKE OF MY DREAM…”
“…I’LL FIGHT THE WORLD FAIR AND SQUARE.”
Then he says something simple.
But powerful.
“THERE’S NOTHING EMBARRASSING ABOUT THAT.”
Isagi watches him quietly.
And realizes something.
“KUNIGAMI REALLY IS…”
“…SOMEONE AMAZING.”
The Steak – Sharing a Goal
Kunigami suddenly reveals something surprising.
A steak.
He explains the Goal Bonus system.
Players can exchange goals for rewards.
The board says:
-
1 GOAL = 1 POINT
-
1 PT — SIRLOIN STEAK / MASSAGE
-
3 PTS — GET YOUR CELLPHONE BACK
-
5 PTS — DELUXE BED
-
10 PTS — 1 DAY EXCURSION PASS
Kunigami chose the steak.
But then he says something unexpected.
“…SO HALF THIS MEAT IS YOURS.”
Isagi is confused.
Kunigami explains why.
“…AND THAT GOAL…”
“…WAS HALF YOURS, TOO…”
The Discovery – Isagi’s Hidden Ability
Kunigami then asks something important.
“WHY DID YOU PASS TO ME THEN?”
Isagi remembers the moment.
Raichi was more open.
“IN TERMS OF POSITIONING, RAICHI WAS MORE OPEN.”
But something else guided his decision.
Something instinctive.
“I THINK I SMELLED A GOAL FROM YOUR MIDDLE SHOT MORE THAN FROM HIM.”
Kunigami notices something immediately.
“YOU ‘SMELLED A GOAL’…”
And he realizes what that means.
“BEING ABLE TO MAKE SUCH A DECISION UNCONSCIOUSLY…”
Then he says the words that change everything.
“I THINK MAYBE ‘SMELLING A GOAL’…”
“…MIGHT ACTUALLY BE YOUR WEAPON.”
For the first time, Isagi hears a possibility.
A strength he never noticed.
The Beginning of Confidence
Isagi is shocked.
“THIS IS CRAZY GOOD!”
For the first time in this chapter, he smiles.
He thanks Kunigami.
“THANKS, KUNIGAMI.”
“YOU’RE A GREAT GUY!”
“I FEEL A LOT BETTER.”
Kunigami tries to hide his embarrassment.
“SHUT UP…”
“IT’S NOT THAT BIG A DEAL.”
Then he looks forward.
Toward the next match.
“ANYWAY, NEXT GAME…”
“…WE’RE GONNA CRUSH IT!”
Isagi agrees.
“YEAH!”
And the chapter ends with the two of them fist-bumping across the table.
A small moment.
But an important one.
Because for the first time—
Isagi may have found the beginning of his weapon.
Following the pivotal moments of self-discovery in, Chapter 10 cranks up the intensity as Team Z’s newfound strengths are put to the ultimate test.
